It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Selecting a camcorder for your production can be confusing because of the wide range of choices. Let's walk through the choices to help you decide what to buy or rent for your production.

Rent? Yes, many producers rent equipment simply because it is costly to buy when technology changes rapidly. For most readers of this book, buying is probably the best choice because we're looking at relatively inexpensive equipment. Rental will give you much better equipment, but probably at a price that would permit you to buy a consumer-grade camcorder. When buying, you will have to assume that you'll replace a camcorder on a regular basis, especially if you are shooting a lot of video. Consumer gear is meant for occasional use. ...
