HOW TO START & END THREADS

To prevent your embroidery stitches from coming undone, you need to secure the start and end of each thread. Ways of doing this depend on personal preference and the stitch you intend to use. For example, use a knot when the lump it may make underneath the fabric won’t be visible, like when embroidering French knots. Finish off each thread as you finish stitching to secure it, and cut off any excess so it won’t get tangled in your working thread.

WASTE KNOT

For this temporary knot, knot the end of your thread on the front of the fabric, and then take the thread to the back of the fabric, about 3 or 4 inches away from where you’re going to make your first stitch. Bring the thread to the front again ...
