The Backyard as Garden
I’m a great one for formal gardens just like I enjoy wearing my tuxedo to the opera. Only kidding! But I do like gardens of all sorts, from the public and formal to the highly informal. The thing that’s really interesting is that from a photographer’s viewpoint, a backyard garden need not really be designated as a “garden.”
Often, the most interesting things are not the expected ones. So while it is wonderful to photograph a perfect camellia or a perfect rose, it is also very exciting to photograph a plant that is taxonomically categorized as a weed.
After all, it is the wise botanical artist who knows that the distinction between flower and weed is somewhat arbitrary, and definitely in the eye of the beholder. The oft-maligned ...
