Racing from the Storm

Background

It is safe to say that New York City was not prepared for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy in late October 2012. The city, businesses, and individuals may have planned for the storm by purchasing batteries, filling their gas tanks, and evacuating their homes but no one could have foreseen just how much damage Hurricane Sandy would cause among communities along the Eastern coast. With at least 100 deaths, thousands of homes and businesses damaged or destroyed, and damage estimated in the billions, the devastation rattled even the toughest of New Yorkers who survived the September 11 attacks a decade earlier.
