How the Blockchain Turned Social
While decentralization is a fundamental feature of blockchain technology, blockchain technology is not necessary in order to achieve the benefits of decentralization. Federated protocols such as Mastodon offer decentralization without the cryptocurrency. In my mind, however, blockchain-based social media has more potential and better benefits to offer in the long range. One of those is the potential for self-monetization.
