ASSESSING AND SELECTING FOR CULTURAL AGILITY

Sudhey Taveras recalls being culturally agile as a young child, long before she could have even uttered the phrase. Sudhey, an American, was born and raised in the Lower East Side of New York City. Her parents, who are from the Canete Tenares region in the Dominican Republic, encouraged Sudhey and her siblings to become bilingual, functionally bicultural, and comfortable in multicultural environments—a lifestyle that was reinforced the moment Sudhey stepped out of her Spanish-speaking home in New York.
