9MAKING SPACE FOR INDIVIDUAL SELF-ACTUALIZATION
The actions of each individual student and family member, of course, are not completely determined by their inclusion in a particular cultural group. Core beliefs and values influence how different cultures perceive the world, build relationships, and interact both inside and outside of their defined groups.
However, these core beliefs are not practiced and internalized equally among individuals in the group. Educators are well served to seek a balance between being mindful of cultural backgrounds while creating space for the individual to demonstrate their own unique personality and ways of expression, thereby assisting each student under their care to make steps toward their own growth.
