BACK IN THE 1990S, I was an executive vice president at Halifax, Nova Scotia–based CCL Group. CCL is a consortium of independently managed companies, focusing on marketing and communications—public affairs and advertising, and also contact centres, video production, and event staging. It has more than 600 employees, and it’s also an organization founded by my brother Steve, who is currently chairman and CEO.1

The culture at CCL was great, and Steve played a big role in ensuring that this was the case. One of his brainchilds was a regular monthly event we held called “98s”.
