How to Make Culturematics
There are many Culturematics. And each industry has a characteristic approach. Here’s a review of precedents and possibilities. It’s brief and, I hope, provocative.
For this chapter, I am going to broaden the idea of the Culturematic a little, to let in as much of the world as possible. We will be alert for what-ifs of every kind, even when this is not driven by a pure push for exploration. We will be alert for permutation seeking, even when the Culturematic in question is not in full discovery mode. All of these Culturematics, broadly defined, are acts of innovation designed to punch their way out of conventional wisdom and existing cultural forms. All of them are designed to bring in the new.
