As with all things that are new, the law of unintended consequences can spin wildly out of control. Today there is, by some measures, an epidemic of promiscuous sharing. Curation is driven by larger and larger numbers of people sharing their likes, dislikes, and habits with the world. Based on fast-moving trends like location-based sharing of data on services like Foursquare and experimental teen trends like sexting (texting of graphic sexual messages and images), it appears that the younger generation is willing to break down all barriers and share even their most intimate personal information. And perhaps the most dramatic area of data sharing that raises eyebrows is finance.
