Appendix B: Research Method and Demographics
To reach a broad sample of individuals who represent US companies that conduct some offshore manufacturing, the research team hired a professional research firm to administer the survey. This firm relied on a database of tens of thousands of pre-qualified members to find the most optimal sample.
The survey was extensively pre-tested before it was launched in July of 2012, with a final close date in August 2012. One of the initial questions, after individuals passed the screening to determine that they have supply chain related jobs, was the following statement and related question:
We define offshoring as the manufacturing of a physical product by a firm in a country other than that firm’s home country. ...
