Chapter 2From Perfectly Controlled to Spinning

After our first night on the boat together, the first mate and her less-than-heroic captain gathered their wits. We walked along the docks marveling at the massive seventy-foot-long houseboats and titanic fifty-foot cruisers. Many of the boats cost half a million dollars or more. As we took our voyeuristic stroll down the docks and between the boats, we noticed that one boat, called Kittiwake, was shockingly out of place. It was a tiny twenty-two-foot C-Dory with a shiny white flag, called a burgee, waving proudly off of the bow, marking it as a looper. We missed them at that moment, but Maggie had met them online. We made plans to have dinner later.
