6.0 Introduction

Introduction

A book is a book is a book. Right? Well … not really. The dominance of the machine-made book, booklet or brochure over the handmade has created a limited number of book forms for reasons of cost, reliability of production and the technical constraints of the printing and book production processes. But outside the world of mass-produced books is a world of handmade books, where pretty much anything goes.

The booklets in this chapter represent generic concepts that can be machine printed, but hand-assembled. In each case, the number of pages and the proportions of the page/booklet can be changed.
