Craig Atkinson’s love of spontaneity means that collage is the perfect medium for his work – he treats each piece as a journey, never quite knowing where it will end up, but clearly enjoying the ride. His approach is strictly analogue: ‘I like doing things you’re told not to do. So smudging pencil marks, sticking things to the surface of a painting, and hanging work on paper by a nail are things I do quite often.’ He uses his own work to create ‘collages of collages’, and anything that he’s not happy with is reused in a future piece.
