The subconscious is a subject that is at the heart of Korean-born Eva Eun-Sil Han’s intriguing collages. Now residing in Belgium, she was inspired to start using the method of cut and paste when she discovered the work of Max Ernst, a pioneer of the Surrealist and Dada movements and one of the original Abstract Expressionists. Using images culled from 1950s National Geographic magazines and vintage photos from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, she creates mysterious tableaux that demand closer investigation.
