Tokyo-based designer Rico’s delicate work feels like a breath of fresh air. She first discovered the technique of cutting and pasting while working on a college project when she was studying in the Netherlands. Featuring pastel colours and natural motifs such as trees, leaves and flowers, her work uses a mixture of different cut papers and drawing, and is much closer in style to traditional illustration. Her approach is straightforward and playful, which gives it an accessible and sanguine quality. She takes inspiration from her surroundings, so the themes in her work are constantly changing.
