VALERIE ROYBAL
Valerie Roybal’s work displays a lightness of touch not present in so much contemporary collage. Based in New Mexico, she creates her work from fragments of discarded books and magazines, antique postcards, handwritten letters and recipes, and charity shop textiles, as well as her own prints and drawings and mysterious found objects. Adding ink, paint and pencil on top of the collaged materials, she often works on several collages at the same time, drawing from the same raw materials, and creating an informal series of pieces.
