3DES (Triple DES) An encryption algorithm used in many VPN devices for the purpose of data privacy that encrypts, decrypts, and re-encrypts data using DES encryption and two secret keys. 3DES is used by the U.S. Federal Government for FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) compliance.

AAA (authentication, authorization, and accounting) A method by which users are authenticated to the network, authorized for access to devices and data, and tracked for accounting purposes.

absorption The process that occurs when an RF signal is lost into an object. This means that the object has converted the RF signal into heat.
