Abstract

Legal aspects of cyber warfare are touched on throughout this book—whether the subject concerns challenges in defining what a cyber war is and the changing definition of war, how the cyber domain compares and contrasts with sea and space issues, aspects of attack versus exploit versus defense and the many national policy issues that exist today, or cyber warfare ethics. This chapter goes into more detail regarding the legal aspects of cyber warfare. In addition to reviewing the many legal systems and current laws that can impact how cyber warfare is conducted, the chapter discusses the need to balance methods of fighting cyber crime, espionage, and warfare with one’s right to privacy.
