7.1 Introduction
Tunisia has been trying to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel markets (in particular, oil and gas) by diversifying its sources of energy in the last few years. Strategically, the energy independence is the key factor of sovereignty and overall national security in the long term. According to International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) [1], the demand for electricity in Tunisia is expected to increase by per year and thus exceed 20 TWh by 2020 and 33 TWh by 2030.
