Incident response begins with the detection and identification of events. Detection, a function found in the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, should be deployed based on risks identified and potential attack patterns of known threats. Many of the capabilities discussed in this chapter play roles in other elements of incident response. Several provide automated detection and identification.
