Data Retention and Disposal

Organizations generate data from a wide variety of sources. In addition to the data an organization creates as part of its normal course of business, the systems and infrastructure that support the organization also create data as they run. The sheer amount of data leaves defenders with several kinds of data:

  • Data that they may need

  • Data that the organization needs to conduct its operations

  • Data whose retention may be required by policy, legal, or compliance reasons
