DEVELOP, KEEP, ENGAGE
Treat your employees like volunteers. The reality is that your employees aren’t required to work for you. They can leave at any time. And it’s been shown that the number-one reason employees leave an organization is their manager. It makes sense then that managers should treat their employees in a way similar to how they’d treat a volunteer. It’s a leadership mantra we developed after serving on several volunteer boards and commissions.
So how do you treat a volunteer? Consistently demonstrate your commitment to them through your behavior. Support their professional and personal goals. Advocate for them and their work. Mentor and coach them to be more successful in their efforts. Recognize and reward good work. ...
