In 1983, I received a call from a human resources executive in a major manufacturing corporation, a Fortune 100 company. The company had a reputation for never firing anyone; children followed their parents into the company. The executive who called said the company was concerned about the low numbers of women and minorities in management and asked me to design a one-day workshop that would examine the psychological issues underlying the numbers.
