We made great progress building and refining our data models in Chapter 11. Tables are properly related. Tables and rows are nicely named and formatted. We also created hierarchies, groups, and bins. However, one major piece is missing. We have not captured the business logic in our model.
The business logic of an organization is the calculations used to determine its key performance indicators, such as those formulas and equations used to evaluate year-over-year performance, manufacturing efficiency, or customer retention. These calculations are what make the data models useful to users as decision-making tools.
