16. Market Supply Technicals

Introduction

The information on supply is a bit easier to monitor and organize than the demand data. This data, however, is still far from perfect. Corporations and underwriters may disclose financing plans in certain cases, but they are cautious about announcements and in some cases are restricted by rules about what they can or cannot say in advance of an actual announcement.

When a new financing (supply) is announced, it might come to market very quickly (the same day) or might take a week or longer of marketing. Loans tend to have a longer process than bonds from marketing to pricing to closing, in part due to the lack of central clearing-houses and because of the amount of documentation that is required.
