The Data Warehouse/Operational Environment Interface
Abstract
The primary interface mechanism between the data warehouse and operational systems is ETL. It is a transformational technology. One component of ETL processing is occasionally the ODS. ETL can feed the ODS as well, and the ODS can feed the data warehouse. On occasion, there is a staging area as data is passed from the operational environment into ETL.
