Converged NAS and SAN
One of the new buzzwords in the storage industry is “converged NAS and SAN.” There are situations where this makes good financial sense, but there are other situations where this is a waste of money.
NAS stands for network attached storage, also known as file storage. The Z: drive on your workplace PC uses CIFS to access a storage (a directory) on some remote server via the network. Network attached storage presents files to the server (files and folders, not devices). The server or the NAS array runs a file system (system software that maps disk sectors into files and folders).
