Upgrading VMware Tools

VMware Tools is a set of utilities installed in the guest OS that improves overall performance and provides better control of the virtual machine, making administration easier. VMware Tools is not installed by default, and some features, such as power control management (shutdown and restart, for instance), improved graphical interface, better mouse control, and the ability to copy and paste files, will not be available until you install VMware Tools.

Version 6.5 delivers two versions of VMware Tools, as follows:

  • Version 10.1: Only available for an OEM-supported guest OS
