AS STATED IN Chapter 9, any business process can be decomposed into a series of subprocesses, each of which generates some business outcome. Each of these outcomes can be treated as a business quanta, and any of these quanta that are commoditized or undifferentiated can and should be outsourced to maximize process efficiency. The key to making a business quanta outsourceable is to properly define all of its properties and characteristics. By doing so, you package the quanta and the process that created it, which makes it portable from an execution perspective.
