Li Ming and Rose Pan

Data collection is the first procedure of data accountability introduced in ISO/IEC 38505-1, which is the application of ISO/IEC 38500 (the ISO Governance of IT standard) to the governance of data.

The governing body should consider the value, risk and constraints relating to data collection for their business. They should formulate strategies and policy about data collection, and realise that value, risk and constraints are the important aspects of data collection. These aspects interact with each other, as data value will be achieved by risk reduction and constraint satisfaction. They should be considered in detail and in depth to improve understanding for the governing body.
