You’ve probably heard the age-old proverb (updated slightly for modern times): “If you give a person a fish, you feed that person for a day. But if you teach that person to fish, you feed that person for a lifetime.”
Fish? Lake? Data lake? Aha! You knew that saying would show up in this book sooner or later! What an absolutely perfect proverb to describe your organization’s data lake, right?
Well, sort of. When it comes to your organization’s data lake, you need to act upon both parts of that proverb: teaching some of your users to fish, and giving other users a fish. In fact, you really need to go beyond just giving some of those users a fish. You need to give them the data lake equivalent of a ready-to-eat fried-fish dinner, complete with french fries, coleslaw, and biscuits.
