11.1  Introduction

In Chapters 610 we discussed possible data models and data structures for our data mart. Before we move to the creation of derived variables and coding examples we will examine definitions and properties of variables in a data mart. We will look at attribute scales, variable types, and variable roles. And we will see different ways that derived variables can be created.
