Chapter 14. The Archive Data Store
The data being archived comes from databases. It has the same characteristics in the archive that it had in the operational DBMS that managed it before it was moved to the archive. You cannot change that. It is highly structured and consists of many instances of each structural element. It stands to reason that the archive data store should also have the same basic organization and functions as any DBMS.
That said, the archive data store can benefit from having other desirable features that are not applicable to the operational database environment.
