5.7. Query-By-Example (QBE)
Query-By-Example (QBE) is a two-dimensional domain calculus language. It was originally developed for mainframe database processing and became prevalent in personal computer database systems as well. QBE was originally developed by M.M. Zloof at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Centre, Yorktown Hts, in the early 1970s, to help users in their retrieval of data from a database. The QBE data manipulation language was later used in IBM’s Query Management Facility (QMF) with SQL/DS and DB2 database system on IBM mainframe computers.
