Introduction

Sony certainly doesn’t play it safe. When the company purchased Konica Minolta’s Photo Imaging Division in 2006, it wasn’t satisfied with sticking to the old digital camera paradigms and technology. At a time when the top dogs in the digital camera world are still mired in the race to produce the best digital SLRs, Sony has concentrated on distinctly different cameras, including the fixed-mirror SLT lineup (which includes the Sony Alpha a77 II), superb fixed-lens compacts like the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 IV, and exciting mirrorless cameras with both APS-C “crop” sensors and models with full-frame sensors, like the a7 series, now in a Mark II generation.
