Embedded SQL programming was introduced in the previous chapter. Even though many of the alternatives to embedded SQL programming offer faster and easier ways to develop applications, it is nevertheless useful to understand and know how to program using embedded SQL. Static statements offer great performance benefits and are only possible through embedded SQL. If you are migrating applications from mainframes such as zSeries or using COBOL, you may prefer embedded SQL.
