Decision Support Concepts

For more than 30 years, companies have implemented decision support applications. Software and systems have changed and vendors have renamed and repurposed decision support applications to catch the attention of managers. Sometimes software vendor terminology is focused on the narrow purpose of the software; sometimes the focus is on the underlying technology; and sometimes the focus is on targeted users. For example, business activity monitoring has a narrow purpose focus. Data warehouse uses an analogy to a physical warehouse with a focus on the database technology. Executive Information Systems referred to a decision support application for a targeted user group.
