Enhance Performance
There are many other ways to enhance the performance of your hard drive, including checking it for bad sectors, running performance tests to see where your computer is lacking, configuring system performance options, and even using system utilities regularly and on a schedule, like Disk Cleanup. Let’s start with a disk check; I’m betting you’ve never done this!
Run Check Disk
Your hard disk won’t run optimally if there are bad sectors on it. Sectors are where data is stored, and if any sectors are damaged and you try to write data to them, you’re going to run into problems. To scan for bad sectors on the hard drive, use the Check Disk error-checking tool:
1. Click Start | Computer.
