When you turn on your computer or awaken it from sleep, do you have to input a password? If you don’t, then anyone can turn it on and use it. This includes your kids, parents, coworkers, a cleaning crew, and guests in your home. And yes, it also includes the thief that obtains your laptop because you left it on the plane, in an unlocked car, or at Starbucks. Think of all the damage any of these people could do! They could send an e-mail from your account and pretend to be you, they could update the status on your Facebook page, or they could send instant messages to your contacts.
