Knowing, Using, Ceding Power
“I don’t have enough power to make change,” the employee shared, frustrated.
“What power do you have, then, and why isn’t it enough?”
They looked quizzically at me like I hadn’t heard what they said. “I don’t have any since I don’t have a leadership title.”
I pushed them a little. “Do you have any control over your work products or your process?” They nodded yes.
“Do you ever lead meetings or present on your work?” Another nod.
“Do people listen to what you have to say or look to you for advice?”
They nodded again ...
