“.NET is the Microsoft solution for Web Services, the next generation of software that connects our world of information, devices, and people in a unified, personalized way.”
When Microsoft started talking about .NET (and even after its release), there was great confusion over exactly what it was. People weren’t sure whether .NET was a new framework, operating system, or programming language. In reality, .NET is really a brand for Microsoft’s vision for distributed development based on Microsoft’s new technology.
