Early in our grant-seeking careers we attended a workshop in which the expert presenter told us, “If you don't get a meeting first, you're not going to get a donation.” He believed that those of us who were told to “send it in writing” were doomed. You may have received some similar foreboding advice. Our experience, as we noted in Chapter Nine, has not borne this out. We have received dozens of grants of all sizes with and without meetings and tours. Securing any one meeting won't make or break your grants effort.
