It was with great excitement for our exploration of space in general and our red neighbor, Mars, in particular that NASA sent the Mars Climate Orbiter away 20 years ago on December 11, 1998. The orbiter was supposed to study Mars’s atmosphere and climate in order to get a better understanding of Martian weather and seasons.
