Preface

A computer engineer has to design and implement algorithms to deal with data. Even a beginner in computer programming is intuitively aware of the need for program correctness and efficiency, but these extremely important ideas are still vague in his mind. They need to be studied with seriousness and in detail. It is also necessary to understand the nature, design, development, testing and analysis of algorithms. This book provides that essential input in the training of young computer engineers and scientists.

The contents of this book are based on, and are an outgrowth of, a course which was offered by one of us (P. H. Dave) at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat during 1990 to 1995. Later on both of us developed ...
