This marketing brochure, which was
sent out with The PMI Group’s annual report,
features a Z-fold format that essentially
creates two pieces in one. One cover and
side promote the company’s charity work,
while the other highlights new products. For
the latter, San Francisco’s Fine Design Group
shot original photography to communicate
each concept. One of the spreads shown
here plays off the old adage “don’t put
all your eggs in one basket” to illustrate a
section on risk management.

Lights, camera, action. For the Federal
Realty Investment Trust’s annual report,
Hirshorn Zuckerman Design Group in
Rockville, Maryland, played with a line from
the classic movie Sunset Boulevard. The
resulting cover line—“ready for our close-
up”—infl uenced design decisions throughout
the piece, such as using subtle fi lm borders
and presenting the management team as the
ensemble cast.

A small print run made it feasible for
Minneapolis-based design fi rm Wink to
include a range of production techniques
within this brochure. The piece comes
in a sleeve made from book board that’s
screen-printed with two colors. Tucked inside
is a brochure that promotes the Marshall
Field’s department store to high-end jewelry
vendors. In addition to being hand stitched,
this piece features letterpress stickers to
announce each section of the book.
