13.1 Introduction
A variety of buildings may be constructed using structural steel. They include single storey buildings and multi storey buildings. In India, single storey buildings using structural steel are constructed for a variety of applications, viz., industrial, commercial/business, institutional, agricultural and to name a few. In the past, these buildings were mainly constructed using trusses. However, in recent years, the concept of Pre-engineered buildings (PEBs) has gained popularity. Nowadays, single storey Pre-engineered buildings are being increasingly constructed for various purposes, viz., factories, workshops, ware houses, super markets, showrooms, offices, servicing stations etc.
