EXPERT SYSTEMS CAN HARNESS THE EXPERTISE OF TALENTED SYSTEMS ANALYSTS. This expertise can be leveraged to help an organization accomplish its goals more quickly and at a lower cost. Similarly, expert system can be applied to data element standardization to improve the efficiency of the process. This article describes how an organization can develop an expert system that can be used as a tool to achieve optimum data element standardization. The examples used in this article were taken from the Department of Defense (DoD) because they have selected the best available data administration components (e.g., definitions, rules, policies, and concepts).
