Wave digital filters (WDFs) are designed to simulate analog electronic circuits, and do not use any biquadratic structures. The idea dates to 1970, but the seminal paper published on the topic didn’t arrive until Fettweis’s “Wave Digital Filters: Theory and Practice” in 1986. This 327-page document is a highly detailed treatise on the subject. If you are at all interested in this topic, it is the first document you should get.
