Chapter 5. Layout and Design Rules

The preceding chapter explained how to insert symbols into a schematic editor and connect their pins. This chapter presents the next step: laying out the actual circuit board with the devices’ physical representations, called packages. The first part of this chapter explains how to lay out packages in the Femtoduino design.

The second part of this chapter discusses the topic of design rules. Just as schematic designs can be validated with Electrical Rule Checks (ERCs), board designs can be validated with Design Rule Checks (DRCs). The main difference is that DRCs are much more involved and the design rules are set by the designer.
